Revisiting Versions of Yourself

There are places we will go and people we will meet for the first time. Maybe we've already gone there or met them. Then comes the choice, the metaphorical fork in the road . Will you ever go there again or was the moment over before you realized? Did you unknowingly say hello to someone who will be with you until your last breath or goodbye without realizing that you wouldn't see them again? There are places we go back to often or more than you expected; this can be your familial home, an old park bench you found on your first walk near your apartment, or even a gas station you went to in a different city years ago. These places hold versions of us that we may have forgotten about, been trying to revive, or simply let go of. Sometimes we never get the chance to revisit these places because they have been closed or changed. Now the difference between reminiscing and being stuck in a time that is already gone is crucial here, because the former is done with a sense of fondness ...

I Think I'm Back

Hi my favourite void to scream into! Life has changed quite a bit. I created this page back in 2018 - have archived quite a few blogs from over the years and I honestly have not written anything to publish since probably 2021. I'd like to think I'm back, though between work, life, and contemplating life I tend to get busy. There is quite a bit of reflection that I have been doing (granted it has been 5 years since I have opened up this blog so maybe not that much), and it feels like it is time to bring this back to life. We live in the digital age and while SubStack seems to be all the rage at the moment, there is some sense of quiet and peacefulness associated with sites like this. Off the main road, kind of like a back alley that people mingle in. Less pressure to perform. More authentic somehow. I could be spewing complete bull right now but thankfully no one is reading this and it is just for me. A place to share my thoughts without the burden of people's eyes. So I cou...

Strangers

I don't know about you but I am the type of person who falls in love with strangers all the time. Now the love that I am talking about is the kind you have over the way someone's face scrunches up when the bus driver takes a sharp turn, or the way someone is engrossed in a book that you already know the ending too, or simply someone who is smiling at every person they walk by as if they have known them for years. The love I am talking about is the kind that you think about when you are laying in bed at night and thinking about all of the faces that you passed through the day and that one face that stuck out. The kind of love that you are bound to forget the moment you step off the bus or out of the coffee shop but you still fall into it for the simple pleasure of loving someone. It's odd, I know, but it's also refreshing, the stranger may never even know about the way you felt and the things you would do to see the writing in their journal because the concentration they...

Naked mole rats do not get cancer

Now, this isn't actually true because for quite some time we (as in scientists) believed that naked mole rats did not get cancer and I was even told of this by my biology instructor. Being the curious soul that I am, I looked up the intriguing "fun fact" and to my dismay, I found that a group of researchers actually found four cases in which mole rats had cancer (the paper that they published is mentioned at the bottom of this post). The rest of this post is not going to be about naked mole rats but as a lover of accurate fun facts, I consider it my duty to inform that this fun fact is actually not that fun. Not to worry though, I will be bringing some fun facts every now and then, and occasionally debunking some just for shits and giggles because why not :) Who would've thought that summer classes would make summer more interesting? Definitely not me, and there is no way that I am saying it now but who's to say that it can't get better soon. So far all I'...
